More Than a Company, a Community: Silodisa's Secret Ingredient
Our greatest asset is not measured in kilometers traveled or tons moved, but in the strength of the bonds that unite us.
- Feeling that we belong to a group gives us strength, purpose and resilience.
- A small, funny problem broke the ice and turned a bunch of strangers into neighbors.
- Everyone has a role, but the success belongs to all of us.
Day to day, between routes, inventories and phone calls, it is easy to focus on the tasks. But at Silodisa, we believe our greatest asset is not measured in kilometers traveled or tons moved, but in the strength of the bonds that unite us. Today we are not going to talk about logistics; we are going to talk about something far more powerful: community.
And no, it is not a hippie idea or a self-help cliché. World-class experts, such as the well-known researcher Brené Brown, have shown that human beings are biologically wired to connect. Feeling that we belong to a group gives us strength, purpose and resilience.
The Incredible Story of the Chihuahua That Created a Community
To show you how this works in practice, here is a fun story. Picture a gated street where the silent treatment was the norm. Nobody said hello. One day, a neighbor’s little chihuahua got loose, a tiny Tasmanian devil named "Hercules." In his daring escape, the dog ran into the house of the rocker next door, who, not being a big fan of furry surprises, let out a scream that alerted the neighbor across the street, who happened to be a police officer...
To make a long story short, within minutes half the neighborhood was on an operation to capture Hercules. Amid laughter, failed strategies and the dog’s confused face, they accomplished the mission. The result? The next day, for the first time, everyone said "good morning" to one another. A small, funny problem broke the ice and turned a bunch of strangers into neighbors. That, friends, is the power of community.
Like a Carne Asada: It Tastes Better Together
Building community at work is a lot like throwing a good carne asada (cookout). Think about it: if everyone grilled a piece of meat alone at home, that would be fine, but it wouldn’t be a party. The magic happens when one person shows up with the tortillas, another with the salsas, someone else nails the guacamole and there is always a brave soul who takes charge of the charcoal.
In the end, the result is much bigger and tastier than the sum of its parts. Everyone pitches in, everyone enjoys. At Silodisa, we see our daily operation the same way. Everyone has a role, but the success belongs to all of us.
The Silodisa Community in Action
At silodisa.mx we always talk about our logistics capacity, but what really makes everything work is our people. The Silodisa community is not a slogan; it is a reality we see every day:
- On the highway, when a driver gives a coworker a heads-up about traffic or an alternate route.
- In our Huehuetoca and Guadalajara warehouses, when the team pulls together to finish a complicated shipment before lunchtime.
- At the office, when someone helps the coworker who is fighting with the printer for the tenth time.
Those small acts of collaboration are what build trust and camaraderie. A soccer team that plays as individuals may have stars, but one that plays as a community wins championships.
So this week’s invitation is simple: let’s look up from our task and see the person next to us. A hello, a smile, a "do you need help with that?" Those gestures are the foundation of our strength.
Because at Silodisa we don’t just move freight. We move Mexico, and we do it together.
